Day 35 - Raising your tone does not get your point across

Is this the start of a long post title?

I like to try and deal with things rationally and logically, and I think most of us do too. Take the time to listen to someone else's opinions and thoughts before your turn comes. Be an active listener, instead of a passive one. Allow them to finish their points first. Be a decent person, you know.
I also like to think that most of our generation after our parents' generation is getting better at it. I say this, from my experience with my parents and their friends, that their perception is if you're not raising your tone enough so to appear bigger than the other person, you're not going to get what you want. Also, in other words, don't be nice.
I'm generally a nice person. I try to avoid conflict. However, I do stand up for myself when I have to, when things don't align with my values. But apparently to them, I'm too nice because I don't appear or sound mean enough. Do I have to raise my voice, to shout at the other person to get my point across?
Sometimes I feel that my 'being nice' get taken advantage of though. I can clearly see it from people. Should I start being blunt? Yes, I should. Call them out of their bullshit? Yes, I would love to. Honestly, I'm starting to, but in my own way. Small steps.
Most recently:
  • Someone cutting me off when I haven't finished talking?
    • Continue talking. Do not stop. Or
    • I haven't finished talking yet, can I finish first? Thanks. (Bonus but I'm not there yet: Stop talking over people when they're not finished yet)
