Day 72 - Call your parents

I didn't think this anime (Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari aka Poco's Udon World) me and Jason were watching would hit this hard.

You would think — since the show has 'udon' in the title, it will have something to do about eating udon or making udon. It did talk about udon... but not the way we had expected. Let's just say I ended up crying my eyes out by the end of it.

The protagonist (Souta) went back to his hometown in the countryside to clean up his family/late father's home. He met a shape-shifting tanuki (Poco) and decided to take care of the tanuki. Throughout the episodes, they went on small adventures and we got to know Souta's relationship with his father before he passed away. It was a strained relationship (at least from the eyes of the Souta) because Souta left for Tokyo for his dream job (not wanting to take over his father's udon shop) and he regretted not talking to his late father enough. Using magical tanuki powers, Poco showed Souta realistic past memories of him and his father. It turned out his father, in fact, understood Souta and supported his dream. All this time, it was because of misunderstandings and lack of communication between each other.

Long story short, call your parents whenever you can. Talk things out with them if there are any challenges between you and them. You may not get closure, but at least you've given your best.
