...at least that works for me. Hear me out.
I've been experimenting this method for the past few days. So instead of listening to music while I work, I play a movie in the background. You might say how do you focus when you have a movie playing in the background? That's why you don't put on any movie. It has to fit in these criteria (for me):
  • Something you've seen before
  • Something slow-paced (try Terrence Malick's)
  • Something you want to watch but it isn't placed high in your top to-watch at all

Once I found the movie, I use the movie runtime to complete my work.

Usually when I'm working on something and I find myself procrastinating or distracted by other things, it takes me a while to get back to the task. But for some reason, with movies, if I do get distracted by a movie scene, it takes me quite quickly to get back to my task at hand. And I don't get distracted with anything else like opening up my social media pages or email.

Honestly I don't know why and how. But it just works. I'll continue to try out this experiment and see how that works out. I already know a few people who do the same (one being my SO, but he puts on either rick & morty or parks & rec), so it does work somehow.
