Life is unpredictable, scary and volatile, but the moment you learn to find and appreciate stillness is the moment you'll find peace.

That's the one thing I took out from Sound of Metal. It was more on the extreme side because the main character lost his hearing.

He struggled because drumming was his livelihood along with his partner and lead singer. He struggled to accept and adapt to his loss. He struggled because he just couldn't accept the fact that his hearing was gone. He struggled because being deaf to him was a disability. But when he slowly integrated into the deaf community, you could gradually witness moments of joy and acceptance from him. You think hey, there's still hope. But when put on the spot to decide his future and saw how his partner was doing well without him, he decided on hearing implants which led to a breach of trust within the deaf community.

Thinking he was finally back to 'normal' after getting hearing implants, it only began to hit him that it'll never be the same. The world of sound he came to know was gone. But he finally found the stillness in the world without sound as he took off his hearing implants. Acceptance and peace washed over him as he sat on a bench watching the clock tower rung in silence. Sound of Metal was heavy and heart-wrenching, but it's also hopeful. 10/10 acting, sound design. Wish I could see it at the cinemas instead. Wish I could rewatch it again with a better sound system and bigger screens.
